Iconic Newport ‘Copper House’ sells for record $17.5M

By Sarah Bell

Sydney’s renowned ‘Copper House’ in Newport has shattered beachfront sale records, selling for $17.5 million – the highest price ever achieved for a beachfront property between Freshwater and Whale Beach.

Designed by world-renowned architect Peter Stutchbury, the architecturally designed four-bedroom, three-bathroom residence at 7 Myola Road, Newport, was snapped up by a local family within just 30 days of hitting the market.

Ray White Northern Beaches agent Emma Blake said the sale price exceeded its $15.5 million to $17 million price guide.

Ms Blake said there was “exceptional interest” throughout the campaign, with multiple contracts issued as buyers competed for the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

“The property generated extraordinary interest from both eastern suburbs and local buyers, predominantly empty nesters seeking a stunning retreat where family could gather on weekends and holidays,” Ms Blake said.

“The property’s architectural significance, combined with its unparalleled beachfront position directly on Newport Beach, was a major drawcard.

“We leveraged social media extensively to showcase this very striking home, and it resonated strongly with the market – it really created a buzz.”

The sale represents a significant milestone for the Northern Beaches luxury property market and underscores the premium value placed on architecturally distinguished beachfront homes in prime coastal locations.

Owner Andrew Moore lived at the home for six years and said it was known to locals as the ‘Copper House’, due to its distinctive architectural elements.

He said his wife Jo and two sons enjoyed the open-plan design and views from the property.

Mr Moore said the home was built by Bellevarde Constructions in 2006 and created using concrete, timber, glass, bronze and copper throughout.

He said the reported build cost was over $7 million when completed.

Mr Moore said: “You can lie in bed and literally watch the surf at Newport peak”.

“It’s just beachfront living at its best,” he said.

“It’s a house where people love to drop in. We’ve had many impromptu visitors and parties over the years.”
